Types of heroes (and villains)

I'm always a sucker for non-powered heroes. That's why Hawkeye is my favorite Avenger.

What's your favorite type of hero? Have you ever thought about it before?

Any categories I forgot?

Types of Heroes
(or Villains)
Description
Examples
Super-human

These are people that used to be ordinary human beings, until an event happened that transformed them into something super-human, giving them abilities and powers that no normal human could possess.
Spider-Man, Captain America, Daredevil, Hulk, Ant-Man/Giant-Man, Flash (Barry Allen/Wally West), Fantastic Four, Green Goblin, Abomination, Venom
Non-human
These can include aliens, gods, demons, vampires, etc. Essentially, most of these characters don’t have any special powers when compared to their own kind, but compared to humans they do.
Superman, Zod, Thor, Loki, Martian Manhunter, Wonder Woman, Blade, Aquaman, Hellboy, Mephisto, Silver Surfer

Ghost Rider and Spawn would fall between the “non-human” and “super-human” categories.
Mutant

While these might technically fall under “non-human,” the race is so similar to humans I gave them their own category. Mutans have the genes that give them their abilities from birth, but they usually don’t manifest until puberty.
Cyclops, Wolverine, Jean Grey, Nightcrawler, Professor X, Magneto, Mystique
(pretty much all the X-Men characters).

Namor would fall between the “non-human” and “mutant” categories.
Technology

These people use knowledge, wealth, or other means to control highly advanced technology, putting them on the same level as having superpowers.
Iron Man, Cyborg, Green Lanterns, Dr. Doom, Whiplash

Batman could arguably be included in this category.
Magic

While not technically a “super power,” these people use magic to give them amazing abilities.

Often times, someone's powers are mistaken for magic. For instance, Scarlet Witch and Thor.
Dr. Strange, Zatanna

Captain Marvel (Shazam) is transformed by magic
Non-powered
These are people that just have to work really, really hard. They may get some technilogical advantage, but they aren’t reliant on the technology.
Hawkeye, Black Widow, Batman, Robin, Mockingbird, Kick-Ass, Catwoman, Lex Luthor, Green Arrow

A Wee Bit O' Celebration

I started this blog on January 26th.

Almost 2 months later, on March 21st, I celebrated over 600 views (with Happy Coulson).

Yesterday (and granted I'm not sure when Blogger decides to change days. It's apparently before 9PM my time), I got 562 views.

In a day.

I'm happy.

So, remember those neato skeato Medieval Avengers photos I posted the other day? Well, with the Wolverine movie coming up, I thought I'd add this as well.

Thanks to everyone who visits the page! Anything you ever want me to post about, let me know.

P.S. - if you caught the FRIENDS reference in the title, props to you!

Man of Steel Prequel Comic

Well, here is is. You can read the entire issue here.

No really big spoilers, but definitely enough plot to set up a future Supergirl movie.

#FridayisUpdateDay: June 28

#FridayisUpdateDay

OK so since this is is my first set of updates in a while, I'm just gonna throw a ton of information out here. Scroll down to see info for what movies you're interested in.

You'll notice there's a Stark-load of links throughout this blog. Each link will take you to another one of my posts about that subject. For example, if the post is about the film itself, the link will be in the title header of the film. If the post is about an actor or character, it will be in the casting section. Basically they're all in places that make sense, and if you want to know more about that, click the link.

- Man of Steel is the beginning of a shared film universe of the DC comics characters, similar to Marvel's Avengers
- A prelude comic to Man of Steel provides proof that Kara Zor-El, aka Supergirl, exists and is present on Earth during the time of Man of Steel
- References to other chracters in Man of Steel include "LexCorp" being visible multiple times, as well as the "Wayne Enterprises" logo appearing, and "Blaze Comics," a reference to BoosterGold.
- Green Lantern may enter into the DCU with the recent film not officially existing in the same continuity, but still serving the purpose of introducing the character to film audiences.
- Warner Bros. is fast tracking a sequel to Man of Steel to come out as early as next year
- Superman's presence is said to "cause" other heroes to step forward, leading to the Justice League movie, which some report will come as soon as 2015

Friday is now Update Day!

I used to post updates on here as often as I saw them. That quickly became too much, and too often, for most people who read my blog to keep up with.

So I stopped posting updates, except for the pretty major ones, like Mary Jane being cut from TASM2. But now I feel like there's a void on this page, because I'm not posting new information, and some people send me pieces of news that I've known or ask me about something that I feel I probably should  have blogged about, but didn't.

Well, in the wake of starting my weekly Over the Years segment, I decided that I should just post updates on a weekly basis. And what better day than Friday? I'll start this week by putting up as much relevant information as I have on the upcoming projects, and update every week from there.

Obviously, if a hugely exciting update comes my way, I have the liberty to post that ASAP. But I'll repeat it in my weekly updates post for those of you who don't want to check here everyday.

So prepare yourself! If you want to stay up-to-date with the latest happenings in the comic book movie world, (or at least up-to-week), check back here every Friday! (And don't forget to check on Mondays for my Cosplay of the Week and Wednesdays for Over the Years segments). Marvel, DC, Fox, Sony, Dark Horse, independent comic book movies, whatever I find relevant, it will all be here.Don't worry about following all the other news blogs and twitter handles and facebook pages that find out the news, because I'll gather the information from all of those sources and bring it to you in one package here, every Friday!

I have to get ready for work now, (weak), so the first post will come tonight! Let the anticipation begin!

100 Words or Less: Mystery Men (1999)

Ben Stiller is the same in this movie as he is in every movie.

Superpowers here include super-farts, a magic bowling ball, turning invisible (when no one is looking) throwing silverware, and being able to “shovel well.”

I knew not to expect much action from a superhero film starring Stiller, Hank Azaria, and William H. Macy, but I thought it would at least be funny. But it isn’t. It either takes itself too seriously, or not seriously enough, I’m not sure.

I don’t care for the heroes, or the villain (Geoffrey Rush). I don’t care about any of them.

100 Words or Less: Super (2010)

When your movie stars Rainn Wilson as the lead superhero, you’ve got quite a hole to dig yourself out of.

Kevin Bacon does well as the villain, but Ellen Page steals the show as the sidekick.

I hate Liv Tyler, and I’m pretty sure I was supposed to in this movie, but that’s my main problem: I didn’t believe in the hero’s cause.

People will compare this to Kick-Ass, but while Kick-Ass is a reflection of society and a response to that, Super is more comedic, and violent for the sake of being violent.

Nathan Fillion is “The Holy Avenger”

Superman: Over the Years

Fourteen actors have portrayed Superman in live-action: including stage shows, musical, film serials, films, and television shows. Let's take a look over the years and see who has worn the red cape and boots.
Ray Middleton: Live performance at the 1940 World's Fair
Kirk Alyn: Superman (1948 film serial) and Atom Man vs. Superman (1950 film serial)
George Reeves: The Adventures of Superman (1952-1958 TV series)
Johnny Rockwell: The Adventures of Superboy (unaired 1961 TV pilot)
Bob Holiday: It's a Bird...It's a Plane...It's Superman (1966 Broadway musical)

David Wilson: It's a Bird, It's a Plane, It's Superman (1975 TV musical)
Christopher Reeve: Superman: The movie (1978), Superman II (1981), Superman III (1984),
Superman IV: The Quest for Peace (1987), Superman II: The Richard Donner Cut (2006)
John Haymes Newton: Superboy (1988-1992 TV series) - first season only
Gerard Christopher: Superboy (1988-1992 TV series) - except first season
Dean Cain: Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman (1993-1997 TV series)
Tom Welling: Smallville (2001-2011 TV series) as "The Blur"
Brandon Routh: Superman Returns (2006 )
Brian Holden: Holy Musical B@man! (2012 musical)
Henry Cavill: Man of Steel (2013)

Introducing: Over the Years

Hi there.

So I've been wanting to find a way to get more posts published on here.

A while ago, I started doing a "Cosplay of the Week" post, and I liked the idea of having a weekly thing that I can just post, and not have to spend a lot of time thinking about it, just easy posts. But I don't want my posts to be meaningless and insignificant.

So I decided to start another weekly segment. Every Wednesday (I know technically I'm late today) I will post an "Over the Years" segment, with each one looking at all the different ways one particular character has been portrayed in live action over the years. Some of them, like Batman and Superman, have several. Others, like Elektra, only have one, so I won't bother with those. But some of them might have more than you think, like Spider-Man or Daredevil.

While most of the time a film will include the "secret identity" as well, I won't connect the two for the purposes of this segment. For example, one post might be "Batman" and another might be "Bruce Wayne."

For my first week, since his latest film came out recently, I'll start with Superman!

Who do you want to see next?

I couldn't find a decent "Over the Years" photo on Google, and didn't want to make one myself.

Medieval Avengers

As of tomorrow, I will have been running this blog for 5 months! As of right now, I have 23,071 page views!

My calculator tells me that's over 4000 views a month, and around 150 per day. Which is pretty cool! I'd still like to do better though.

Anyways, in celebration, nothing super important here, just some neat photos you may have seen around the internet. Check them out!

Which is your favorite? Mine is Hawkeye
