The Females of the Upcoming Superhero Films

[So, in case you didn't notice, this is essentially the same as my previous post but with different pictures, and slightly more information.]

Alright kids, lets build some anticipation for the next three years by remembering all the stuff we've got coming out way.

(Disclaimer: Many of these photos are shots of the actresses outside of the context of the film, or, in the cases of films who have not yet casted, cosplays)

2013:

May 3 - Iron Man 3

Gwenyth Paltrow returns in Iron Man 3 for her fourth time as Pepper Potts, associate and girlfriend of Tony Stark. Potts' role wll be expanded even more in this film.

Additionally, Stephanie Szostak has been cast as "Brandt" who, in the comics, was the wife of the scientist that would become the Man-Thing.

June 14 - Man of Steel (supposed to kick-start DCs own shared film universe)

Amy Adams will play Lois Lane, Clark Kent/Superman's love interest, in the upcoming film. Fun Fact: Adams previously played a role on the TV Series Smallville, which was based on Superman growing up and developing his powers.

Additionally, Antje Traue will play Faora, one of the film's villains, having Kryptonian powers similar to Superman's.

July 26 - The Wolverine (set after The Last Stand)
Svetlana Khodchenkova will portray Viper (previously known as Madame Hydra) in the upcoming X-Men film. She will most likely be the secondary villain, after the lead villain Silver Samurai. Svetlana won the role after Jessica Biel turned it down.

August 16 - Kick-Ass 2
Without a doubt, Chloe Grace Moretz was the best part about the original Kick-Ass. Now, she's 16 years old, and back in the role again with a few other returners and some new characters as well. Kick-Ass is my favorite superhero film, so I'm beyond excited for the sequel. As for Moretz, she  stole the show years ago when she surprised viewers with the action, language, and violence coming from a young child, but she also received praise for her acting. I can't wait to see how much better she's gotten, and fully expect her to be the best once again.

October 4 - Sin City: A Dame to Kill For
Jessica Alba was an embarrassment to the Fantastic Four franchise, and in my opinion, the only hero who was miscast (Dr. Doom was no better) of the four. I believe that was because they hired her for her looks, but pretended like she could act, and it just went terribly. Sin City at least had the honestly to admit that she was just hired for her looks. They didn't give her a very big role to have to try to act. Just take off your clothes and dance. Hopefully they don't try and give her any real responsibilities in the sequel.

Miho is back as well. As are Goldie and Wendy. In fact, most of the original cast is back, with some newbies coming along for the ride.

November 8 - Thor: The Dark World
Jaimie Alexander returns as Sif in Thor: The Dark World. According to the actress, Sif's relationship with Thor will be increased a bit, somewhat hinting at their eventual romance. You can read what I would love to see from Sif here.

Natalie Portman returns as well. As much as I love her, she was all but pointless in Thor, and I hope she is better used in the sequel. Unfortunately, I've heard that may not be the case.

Kat Dennings returns as well, supposedly with a role expanded from that of just a simple comic relief. Which is good, because she was basically a sidekick to Jane Foster, who herself was basically a pointless character. So, having an additional pointless character assisting the pointless character is annoying. When they are given more focus than Dr. Selvig, who was really the important one, its even more annoying. Fix this in the sequel, please.

TBA - 300: Rise of an Empire (prequel)
Eva Green (from Casino Royale) steps in as the lead in the spin-off/prequel to 300. Don't have much else besides that. But here's a fun fact: she will also have a role in Sin City: A Dame to Kill for, making her (probably) the only actor in 2 comic book films that year, except for MCU crossovers.

2014:

April 4 - Captain America: The Winter Soldier
Emily VanCamp has been cast as the yet-unnamed "Female Lead" in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Which means that I'm 99% sure she'll be Sharon Carter, aka Agent 13 of SHIELD, aka relative of Steve's old flame Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell from the first film).

In the original comics, in which Cap froze in the 40s and came back in the 60s, Sharon and Peggy were sisters.

In the 1990 Captain America film (which was awful), in which Cap froze in the 40s and came back in the 60s, Sharon was changed to be Peggy's daughter.

In the current comics, and therefore most likely in the new film, in which Cap froze in the 40s and came back in the 2010s, Sharon will be Peggy's niece (or maybe great-niece). Which will make the whole thing a little less awkward.

Additionally, Scarlet Johansson will return as Black Widow (now in Cap's franchise, which is the current SHIELD partner for Phase 2, like it was with Iron Man (2) in Phase 1), along with fellow SHIELD-alum Maria Hill, played again by Cobie Smulders.

May 2 - The Amazing Spider-Man 2

Emma Stone returns from the original as love interest Gwen Stacy. Throw into the mix newcomer Shailene Woodley as Mary Jane Watson, who as we all (should) know, ends dating (and marrying) Peter after Gwen is...well, maybe you don't know that yet, but you should.
If you follow my posts, you'll know from this post that I believe Gwen should die, and the movie should focus on the triangle between Peter, Mary Jane, and the Black Cat. Rumors have said she may be in the film, but nothing confirmed yet.

July 18 - X-Men: Days of Future Past (combining the original trilogy and the prequel First Class)

Because it's not enough for Bryan Singer to combine the biggest names of the cast of the original trilogy (Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Halle Berry, Hugh Jackman, Anna Paquin, Shawn Ashmore, Ellen Page, and Daniel Cudmore) with the starts of the prequel First Class (James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult), he's also throwing in a new villain, Oliver Trask, and new heroes, including Sunfire, Bishop, and actress Fan Bingbing, pictured here, as Blink.

August 1 - Guardians of the Galaxy
Lots of casting rumors for who might play Gamora in Guardians of the Galaxy, but I'm not going to pick any favorites yet. But here's an idea for what she potentially might look like in live action!

2015:

March 6 - Fantastic Four reboot (Fox's fourth crack at the team, this time to share continuity with the X-Men series)

In my opinion, Invisible Woman ruined the last two FF films. Doom was bad, but his relationship with Sue was way off and unnecessary, and though the actor had a terrible part, at least he could act. Alba was just awful. Sue Storm in the film was nothing more than a distraction that they enjoyed having an underwear gag with. Make Sue as much a part of the team as the rest of them. Make her sexy, spunky, and able to hold her own, just just (intended) eye candy. This cosplayer to me is the type of look I want in the reboot.

May 1 - The Avengers 2
Who knows what Avengers 2 will bring us? So here's Maria Hill, who may be after Nick Fury's job in the upcoming films. Don't put too much stock in that though, because I really have no idea.

November 6 - Ant-Man
No casting done yet for Ant-Man, but it seems a sure thing that Wasp will be in the film. I will probably post more on this later, but my basic plea is DO NOT JUST MAKE HER A SCIENTIST. That's how the girls of the MCU are going so far. Betty Ross, OK, she actually is a scientist, fine. But Jane Foster? She's a nurse, and they made her an astrophysicist. Add to them Stark, Banner, and Pym, and we've got enough scientists. Make Janet Van Dyne/Pym who she was in the comics - a socialite - and run with that. Also, put her in an awesome costume. I love this cosplay photo, because its sexy but its also practical. No wings in this photo unfortunately, but I like the basic idea.

Marvel has also officially announced a Dr. Strange movie is in the works, but no word yet on a release date, except that it will be in Phase 3, so after Ant-Man.

Even less than nothing is known about this Dr. Strange film, but I can guess one thing. Whoever they cast, he won't look this good.

So there we have it! At least 14 comic book movies coming out in the next 3 years! Looks like I should have plenty to talk about!

  1. So are they really going to combine the original Fox X-men Trilogy with Day's of Future Past? I hadn't heard they were going to merge the two, but thank God that they might be! SO EXCITED.

Also, I completely agree about Jessica Alba and Natalie Portman -> Yuck. FIX NOW.

    AND FINALLY,
Fury WILL end up losing his job to Hill, either by death (Marvel Civil War), or by administration choices (see Avenger's for the foreshadowing). I'm guessing they knock him off and set-up for Civil War. they're going to need something to challenge the super hero world that they are creating, and Civil War is freaking sweet. The problem is, what do you do AFTER the Civil War?

Anyway, keep up the great job, and thanks for posting!

    1. I don't know how interested FOX is in merging them, but Bryan Singer seems to want to, so as long as he stays on board, I think the franchise will go well

I'm very curious to see what Marvel Studios might be doing after Phase 2 (I've heard one idea that doesn't have a whole lot of evidence yet), when there are a ton of heroes. While it could be leading to something huge and epic like civil war, I wouldnt be surprised if they took theyre time and did West Coast avengers and whatnot first, and doing some more down-to-earth stories and characters while the main cast gets more and more cosmic.

And then I'm REALLY interested to see how DC and FOX responds to all of this, and if they can even get close to the same level.

      Thanks for commenting!
